I think the point he is trying to get at is that the user interface is completely inappropriate. His dad can operate windows 7 perfectly fine but obviously struggles with windows 8 which would suggest to me that it is flawed. And the fact that you said " I doubt Microsoft is going to change their product because an old man cant figure it out" is a very naive and stupid comment, mainly because this video along with all the others on YouTube suggest that it's not only "Old" people who are struggling for it.
